Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death in the U.S., taking the lives of 600,000 annually, according to the Institute of Medicine. But what most parents don’t know is that SCA is the #1 killer of student athletes and the #2 medical cause of death among youth under 25.

What happened to Katlyn was a miracle because she was diagnosed by an EKG at a student athlete physical. This is NOT normally done in these physicals. The EKG saved her life.
Katlyn’s Krew, Inc. plans to raise funds to pay for heart screenings at schools and organizations throughout Michigan. We will do this through events as well as auctions and online fundraising.
Because a Sudden Cardiac Arrest happens so fast, an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and the use of CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) are sometimes the only things standing between life and death, we will also help to raise funds and donate AEDs and CPR training (and kits) to schools and organizations.
And, because most heart conditions in young people are present from birth, we will also strive to support, educate and help other groups and individuals involved with the cause of Congenital Heart Defects (CHDs).
We have taken Parent Heart Watch’s “Prevention Promise” . . . and so can you:
